Assembly Member Fiona Ma and Supervisor Don Horsley Endorse Shelly Masur for Supervisor
Redwood City, CA — Shelly Masur announced today that she has received the endorsement of both California Assembly Speaker Pro Tempore Fiona Ma and former San Mateo County Sheriff and current Supervisor Don Horsley in her campaign for San Mateo County Supervisor. Along with Supervisor Dave Pine, who has also endorsed Masur, Ma and Horsley are the highest-ranking elected officials to have endorsed in the race.
Both leaders say Masur’s record on the Redwood City School Board, where she worked to balance budgets, while protecting students from cuts and overseeing increased academic performance, was an important factor in earning their endorsements.
“Shelly has been an effective advocate for our children and youth at the local and state level – protecting vital academic programs, despite the most difficult financial situation facing local governments since the Great Depression. She will continue to fight for our entire community as County Supervisor,” said Assembly Member Ma.
“As Supervisor, Shelly will work to balance our County budget while protecting vital county services, like law enforcement and programs for our seniors, children and families,” said Supervisor Horsley. “I am proud to support Shelly and look forward to working with her to keep San Mateo County a great place to live.”
Ma currently serves as Speaker pro Tempore of the California Assembly; she was elected to the Assembly in 2006 and is currently serving her third term. Her district includes parts of northern San Mateo County, including Colma and much of Daly City. Horsley was elected San Mateo County Sheriff in 1993 and served for 14 years. He was elected to the County Board of Supervisors in 2010. Ma and Horsley join Pine and dozens of other local elected officials in endorsing Masur.
“I am honored to have the support of Don and Fiona. They are both committed public servants for San Mateo County and I look forward to working with them to balance our budget and protect children, youth and families ,” said Masur.
Shelly Masur has more than 15 years of experience in public service and non-profit management. She currently serves on the Redwood City School Board, as Immediate Past-President of the San Mateo County School Boards Association and as an elected member of the California School Boards Association’s Delegate Assembly. Shelly lives in Redwood City and has three children who all attend Redwood City public schools. She is married to Josh Masur, an intellectual property attorney.
