Senator Leland Yee Joins San Mateo County Asian American and Pacific Islander Leaders Endorsing Shelly Masur for Supervisor

Leaders Praise Masur’s Experience and Vision for San Mateo County

Redwood City, CA — Senator Leland Yee and several key leaders of San Mateo County’s Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) announced today that they are endorsing Shelly Masur for San Mateo County Supervisor.  Yee is joined by Assembly Speaker pro Tempore Fiona Ma, San Mateo County Board of Education Member Rod Hsiao, San Mateo Deputy Mayor David Lim, Redwood City Vice Mayor Jeff Gee and Millbrae City Councilmember Wayne Lee in supporting Masur.

Citing her experience as a public servant and non-profit executive, these leaders agreed that Masur is the best candidate to stand up for the AAPI community and all of San Mateo County on important issues such as education, the economy and balancing the county budget.  According to 2010 census numbers, there are more than 178,000 Asian American Pacific Islander residents in San Mateo County – making up nearly a quarter of the total population.

“As a school board member and non-profit executive, Shelly has worked to solve problems using creative solutions and collaborating among all facets of our community,” said Senator Yee. “I am excited to support Shelly for Supervisor – I know she will continue to be a tireless advocate on issues that not only impact the Asian American community, but all of San Mateo County.”

In addition to Senator Yee, Assembly Member Ma and the other leaders listed above, Masur has been endorsed by Hillsborough City Councilmember Marie Chuang, San Mateo-Foster City School District Board Member Audrey Ng and Daly City Parks & Recreation Commissioner Genevieve Villafranca Jopanda.

“I am honored to have the support of Senator Yee and so many extraordinary leaders from the AAPI community,” said Masur. “The AAPI community is such an important part of San Mateo County.  As Supervisor, I will work with the AAPI community to make sure their needs and issues are addressed and respected.”

Shelly Masur has more than 15 years of experience in public service and non-profit management.  She currently serves on the Redwood City School Board and as Immediate Past-President of the San Mateo County School Boards Association.  Shelly lives in Redwood City and has three children who all attend Redwood City public schools. She is married to Josh Masur, an intellectual property attorney.
