Redwood City Councilmember Shelly Masur to Run for State Senate District 13
Announces early support from elected officials and labor, environmental and business leaders
REDWOOD CITY, CA— Shelly Masur has officially announced her candidacy for the 13th State Senate District seat. The seat will be open in 2020 as Senator Jerry Hill will be termed out of office. Masur is a current Redwood City Councilmember, a former Redwood City School District board member and brings a wealth of unmatched experience to the field of candidates.
Highlighting early support from newly elected California State Treasurer Fiona Ma, former CA Superintendent of Public Instruction Delaine Eastin, and the Northern California Carpenters, Masur’s endorsement list (link here: https://www.shellymasur.com/endorsements) demonstrates her broad support across the district.
“I am proud to endorse Shelly and without a doubt know that she is the right candidate for the job. Sacramento lacks equal representation of women in the Legislature and we need more women legislators to work on crucial issues such as paid family leave, access to healthcare and issues that affect women, families and children. I know that Shelly is ready to tackle these issues and is the best choice for the State Senate,” said Fiona Ma.
Proven time and again to be a strong fundraiser, Masur has a wide range of early support. With over $50,000 in contributions for the first financial filing period, the campaign has received hundreds of small donations as well as contributions from local labor unions including the Sprinkler Fitters U.A. Local 483 and IBEW Local 617.
“Now more than ever we need representatives in Sacramento who have the experience and background necessary to fight for what is right and know how to stand up and make a difference. I’ve been a school board member, a mom, a non-profit leader and a city councilmember. My record of service isn’t just check marks on a list but rather a testament of what I have done to better the lives of those who live in our community. I am ready to take the next step and represent Senate District 13,” said Masur.
Shelly Masur’s long track record of electoral success is evidenced by the fact that she has been elected 3 times to the Redwood City School Board and once to the Redwood City Council. She also finished second in a seven candidate countywide election to fill a vacancy on the Board of Supervisors, garnering 102,000 votes.
Masur has been a leader in women’s health and education for over 20 years, has led youth-serving non-profits and held women’s health and education-related leadership roles. Read her full bio here: https://www.shellymasur.com/meet_shelly
